This bushy, short-lived species is common in disturbed sites and along roadsides in sagebrush grasslands of the western U.S. It prefers shallow or rocky soils and is very drought-tolerant. Bigelow’s Aster is a good reclamation species, and it is excellent for pollinator conservation because of the purple blooms late in the season.
