An F1 hybrid, Summery Love Pure White is a low-growing, flowering annual offering late spring through fall interest, typically blooming until the first frost. The flowers are pure white with no yellow throats, and they grow larger and closer together than on most torenia. They bloom profusely, last a long time, and attract pollinators, especially hummingbirds, to the garden.
A Torenia fournieri, commonly called wishbone flower, clown flower, or bluewings, Summery Love Pure White is a member of the snapdragon family (Plantaginaceae). An excellent garden performer, vigorous and healthy, this perky plant maintains a compact, mounded habit and is better branched and more durable than most. Summery Love Pure White is shown to best effect when massed or grouped in beds, borders, containers or hanging baskets, but it also makes a good houseplant.
Stout and easy to grow, Summery Love Pure White can be grown in sun or shade, but the soil should be rich and moist, but well-drained and never soggy. It stands up to heat, humidity, rain, and strong sunlight, but a location with morning sun and afternoon shade may be best in warmer regions. Torenia is generally pest- and problem-free, but good air circulation is important to keep it disease-free. Nipping off the growing tip of seedlings at 3 inches tall encourages branching and a bushier plant; pruning and fertilizing after flowering encourages new blooms; and mulching maintains moisture and cools roots in hot climates.
