Zinnia elegans, 'Oklahoma Golden Yellow'

  • Description
Zinnias are a favourite flower of both gardeners and florists around the world. They are extremely easy to grow from seed and are the perfect flower for beginners. They provide colour from mid-summer to autumn and are perfect for cutting. Long-lasting standouts in bouquets, Zinnia elegans is a ‘cut-and-come-again’ flower, yielding multiple cuts over the season. The plants have an upright and branching habit and the old blooms stay fresh as new blooms open. Zinnia elegans, ‘Oklahoma’ is a bold zinnia series that has been bred specifically for professional cut flower growers. Productive, healthy, and reliable, this impressive series offers uniformity and clarity of colour in addition to sturdy stems and disease resistance. The medium sized 5cm (2 to 2½in) flower heads have an extremely high percentage of double flowers, with extra rows of petals that make them look fuller. They are held high on exceptionally strong stems that grow 90cm (3ft) tall and hold up in challenging weather conditions. ‘Oklahoma Golden Yellow’ Zinnia is an excellent, reliable variety for bouquets, wedding flowers, and event work. With less susceptibility to powdery mildew and a more extended vase life than other zinnias, they are a prime choice for late summer cut flowers. There’s a reason why the Oklahoma zinnias fill up florist buckets, mixed bouquets, mason jar arrangements and wedding design pieces. The Oklahoma series is very consistent when it comes to its form, this well-bred variety consistently gives big, fluffy, perfect blooms. The plants are also incredibly prolific, numerous blooms can be being taken of one plant, each one being replaced - a great plant to have when you’re needing volume. In addition, the smaller size of the Oklahoma zinnias really allow for you to work them into designs in a way that you can’t with the larger zinnia varieties. Smaller is usually better when it comes to doing wedding work especially, and although not quite as impressive on their own as larger varieties may be, they tend to play better with others.
